I Was Scared Witless By The Newpaper!
Wednesday Advertising Day.
This is not the first time I am sharing Eveready Ads with you na dit probably won't be the last. There 'scary' ads were a staple of the nespapers in the forties and fifties. Most, if not all, are produced by Johnstone and Cushing artist Creig Flessel and they were one of that companies longest running continuous campaign. In the late fiftie Flessel took over the David Crane newspaper strip from Win Mortimer and continued drwing that well into the sixties. But the art there never rose to the scary heights of this series. More time to produce, better payment and, frankly, a lot better subject.
