Thursday Story Strip Day.

In May last year I showed a selection of Space Conqueror episodes from Boy's Life's comic section. Best known for the work by Lou Fine in it's later period, it was actually started by Al Stenzel (who signed it all the way through). In the late fifties, the strip was done by EC great George Evans. I know, because Evans did a lot of work for Boy's Life (in fact, it may have been his biggest account in that period) and erm... he signed it.

I used the new blogger interface again. It's quicker to upload long runs, but... well, you see. Click to see a better version.

More from Boy's Life. Spave Conquerors was one of the longest running strips in their comics section. It started right in the first issue and was there almost everytime after that. It was signed by writer Al Stenzel and there were several artists over the whole period. Most famous is Lou Fine, who did it in the sixties (whith a short break when he started his newspaper strip Peter Scratch). Regular visitor and commentor here Smurfwhacker did a selection of them, which lead me to disovering the complete Boy's Life run at Google Books. You can find his post here: http://smurfswacker.blogspot.com/. I have decided against representing all the Space Conqueror strips here. Instead, here is a longer run from 1955. At that point there see m to have been several artists involved. One of them could be Hal Sharp, who was a signing regular at the Boy's Life Comic Section. But I am not fmiliar (or interested) enough with/in his style to be sure.
