A Mountain of Evidence.

Friday Panel Day.

Paul Webbs Mountain Boys was a famous series of magazine gag cartoons. They even got their own books. In 1956, a daily newspaper version was started, which was drawn by Mad's own Mort Drucker. I have shown it before, but never reslized it ran for so long.

Hey Ger, how did you determine that Mort Drucker was ghosting this panel? I always just assumed it was Paul Webb himself. By the way, this is the second time The Mountain Boys made it in newspapers; they had a daily strip in the late 1930s.

It is nothing like Webb's style. Webb had stopped doing the cartoons years before that. It is completely in Drucker's style on the DC's funny comic books he worked on in Bob Hope and Leave it to Binky in the early fifties. Except that his inking style had evolved. Some of the hands look very much like the way he was inking at Mad.
