 In past years I have shared some of the daily crime serials that King Features offered to thei clients. They appeared daily, took a week (six episodes) to finish and most were illustrated by Paul Norris (in a hybrid of his Alex Raymond and Milt Caniff styles) and Edd Cartier, certainly in the late forties. I just discovered a great source for those serials where they were published together on four pages in a Sunday newspaper. My first samples are from 1953, when other artists appeared. But Edd Cartier seems still to have been there (if they weren't reprints). Better still, although some daily papers dropped one of the six illustrations on occasion, these 'complete' versions had all the illustrations as well. These samples are from 1953, but as far as I can tell this feature started in May 1952.

In the late forties King Features had a syndicated crime serial. Each episode had six parts and ran daily with illustrations by Paul Norris and Edd Cartier. Both are interesting to see, because Norris was at that point still halfway between being a Alex Raymond clone and a Noel Caniff imitator. Edd Cartier had a delightful style, whose expressiveness makes you sorry he did not do comics. Clipping thse serials from small town papers has always been a hassle. Thankfuly, with my new Genealogy account I have access to The Dallas Morning News, which reran these stories in the early fifties on four pages, usually using all six of the illustrations. You will not see Paul Norris in the lot I gathered here, they are mostly by Cartier, with one or two by an unknown (but familiar looking) artist of lesser quality. I wish I had mre to show you, but getting these ready was enough work as it was.

From one of those online newspaper sources I have collected as many of King Features' illustrated weekly detective feuilletons as possible. They ran between 1947 and 1949. The first year they were excusively illustrated by Paul Norris. Later, he was joined by the insanely talented science fiction illustraton Edd Cartier. As far as I can see for reprints and reruns in later editions of otehr papers, one illustration was made for every day, but not every paper used every illustration every time. So here are two more spotty runs. I have included the non illustrated parts as well, so those so inclned can try to read the story - although it's the illustraions that attracted me in the first place.
