Doublevégé

Monday Cartoon Day.

I recently bid on two of Gluyas Williams originals in the Heritage Auction, one a book illustration one a panel fom his long forgotten newspaper series, but I don't think I won either. I hope I haven't ruined my own chances by showing so much of his wonderful work here. To anyone from Europe his influence on the early work of Tintin artist Hergé is obvious. In 1946 (from which I'm showing most of his newspaper panel cartoons from januari) Hergé had already moved on stylisticly and Williams was still working in the same old way. Not that I am complaining.
