Saturday Leftover Day.
Steve's comment to yesterday's post prompted me to go to the Grans Comic Datbase and resarch the work of Ray Bailey a bit more. After Tom Corbett he ended up at Dell doing lots of stuff for them. I have shown some of his Boris Karloff stories here before (two of the three mentioned in the GCD), but there is more. He also did a long run of Turok, which I am downloading as I type this. He also did a single issue of Lee Hunter, Indian Fighter for Four Color #904. This time there is no doubt he was mistaken for Lee Elias. I have added the last inside page, where we see one of his typical rock formations. A type of rock which seems to have also excisted in China in the forties and on the moon in the mid fifties...

This is some nice Bailey, to be sure. It strengthens my conviction that Ray didn't draw that war story.
But here's something weird (though surely purely coincidental): the artwork, especially in the scenes of the two guys fighting, is surprisingly reminiscent of Hugo Pratt's work in his Sgt. Kirk days! Pratt's Kirk art looks more like Bailey's work more than it looks like Caniff's.
Interesting. I am a huge fan of Pratt's Corto Maltese, but I should have a look at Sgt. Kirk as well.
