Ripping Adventures
Wednesday Advertising Day.
All through the forties and fifties the popular style of Ripley's Believe It Or Not feature was copied by advertisers. I have shown a couple before, but I believe I left the best till now. From 1947 to 1951 (at least) there was a series of ads from this type for General Electric. GE is known, of course, for producing the informational cmoic book leaflet series about electricty and similar subjects, that was drawn by George Roussos for their employee information rack. I have shown one of these gorgeous books (easily the best work Roussos ever produced) earlier. Thee ads are not by Roussos, or by any artist I recognize, but they are in a very nice comic book realistic style.
