Last week I showed some (rather poor) scans of Frank Thorne's Guy Bennett from the late fifties. He continued this strip until 1962, when in the paper I clippe these from he was replaced with not one but two similar strips, Dr. Kildare and Ben Casey. The last week of the strip is weird. I would not have shown it, because of the poor quality, but for these two oddities: First of all, possibly to compete with all those television doctor shows, the lead had been changed from Dr. Bennett to the much younger Dr. Duncan. Secondly, the strip ends with a kid sneaking out of hospital and leaving a ransom note. A coincidence, or a deliberate snub by the makers to the audience that had left them?
