Follow The Flagg

Thursday Story Strip Day.

I keep finding new samples of Dan Flagg, so I keep reposting the old ones with whatever new ones I found (four, this time).

I have the original to the 9th strip, the wedding scene with the floating heads. Drawn very large on three strips of bristol board which were taped together. Very meticulous inking. Some panels seem to be worked on by different hands, but it's hard to say for sure.

At some point Alden McWilliams couldn't have been doing it all, because he took over Davey Jones as well (six times dailey). So many hands sounds logical.

In tv Sherwood would have been called a producer.

But in the sixties sense when Sherwood Schwartz not only produced Gillgan's Island but also wrote the pilot and probably rewrote a lot of the others. It can be tempting to follow Archie Goodwin's famous Warren story about four artists doing all the work for one 'producer' without any one of them knowing he himself did nothing. I think he did do a lot of drawing. Just the boring bits.
