Thursday Story Strip Day.
For the last few months I have been showing the early work of former Will Eisner assistant and future Saint artist John Spranger. Together with cartoonist Lawrence Lariar he created the Saint-like adventure comic Bodyguard, which morphed into Ben Friday and would be changed into The Bantam Prince later on. But by then the artwork would be taken over by Carl Pfeuer and Spranger would jump to The Saint. I have a large run of all these Sundays and am parsing them out in portions of three months. So here we go with the next lot. Have a look at the others to see the slow change in his style. In this lot, I find the silent bit with the dog quite remarkable and indicative of a real comic strip artist at work.
