Saturday Adventure Day.
And now for somthing completely different... Arnaud W. is a fellow Dutch collector of newspaper strips from the forties and fifties, whom I got to know when we kept bidding on the same items on eBay. We agreed to send each other scans and I have benefitted from that a lot. Recently, I came across some samples of a strip I do not collect or usually scan - on the back of a full year of another strip I do want to show some day. Both are highly realistiscally drawn adventure strips, by artists who came from the magazine illustration field. Mitzi McCoy is the first and mostly forgotten strip from the later Kevin the Bold artist Kreigh Collins. Dick's Adventures was a minor series that was give the Prince Valiant treatment, but without the compelling scip, characters or setting. And no, I do not know what's up with the blue noght scenes. Is that a recurring misprint or somethng this strip did more often? there are moths between some of these strips and it keeps coming back.

Wow, such a pleasant surprise to see some nice examples of "Mitzi McCoy"! Kreigh Collins was my grandfather, and I have been working on a book collecting Mitzi's entire run for a number of years now. I am hoping to be able to make a major announcement regarding the book soon. —Brian Collins
Mitzi is so obscure I couldn't find it in Allan Holtz's excellent encyclopaedia. What is featured as the very first strip, dated November 7, 1948, appears on the website "Kreigh's Comics." It looks very interesting
Yes, I highly recommend "Kreigh's Comics." That's my baby! Unfortunately, I think my blog is pretty obscure, too. I'm pleased to meet a reader!
I like this artist a lot actually, beautiful inking!
Mitzi McCoy hasn't got a seperate entry in Allen Holtz's book, but it is mentioned under Kevin the Bold (as well as Up Anchor). Can't wait for Brian Collins' reprint of the complete Mitzi McCoy!
That explains why no separate entry - see Allan’s August 20, 2009 entry of Stripper’s Guide, which reprints an E&P article from 1950 - Mitzi McCoy “merged” or “morphed” into Kevin the Bold.
