For The Dogs

Saturday Leftover Day. The sixties had their own type of rareties. After a long period where new funny strips were usually made by former cartoonists, a new generation came up that was either trained in advertising or came from college magazines. I don't know which of these was the case with Frank Bowen. Even Alan Holtz doesn't have a lot about it on his seminal The Stripper's Guide entry (https://strippersguide.blogspot.com/search?q=fagin). I guess we are lucky he has even that (and a couple of sundays). It seems to have been in The New York Sunday News, where I assumed it was a filler strip rather than a regular.

Laughing Aside

Monday New Stuff Day.

Looking at the Povidence Journal for another strip, I discovered they had theor own Sunday magazine section. In it, I found a regular cartoon feature called Today's Laughs. They are copyrighted for the Chicago Tribune Syndicate, so I guess they were the ones who put it together for one of their magazines. There are only a few artists represented, but all of them worked and sold their stuff in New York. SO I guess they must have had their own buyer somewhere.
