Thursday story strip day.
Today I continue my run of Gill Fox' Jeanie strips taken from the originals over at Heritage Auctions. We are starting a two month run of strips without any missing. The more I read of this strip, the more I am convinced that it worked fine as a filler strip in it's earlier version, but as a story strip it fails because it is neither fish not fowl. Not funny enough for a daily gag strip and not interesting enough as a story strip. The fault here is with the writer, Selma Diamond and not with the artist, who delivers plenty pretty looking women as is asked of him. The first color sample is one of those earlier filler strips, from September 23, 1951.
