At the Ohio State library I came across a Bob Bugg ad which I photographec and spend some time on to (sort of) correct it. Follow the link for more of Bob Bugg surprising advertising career.

Unique Selling Point
Wednesday Advertising Day.
I scanned a couple of new ads and added two I am not sure I shared before.
I have this one down as probably encilled by jack Btts, but inked by someone else at Johnstone and Cushing.
In the mid to late fifties Bob Bugg did various cigarette ads for Reynolds brands. Most famous of course (and I show just about all of them if you follow the link) is the Sgt. Bilko series he did for Camels. But in addition to those he also did a couple of single Camels ads. I have shown two, and this is another one.
Up to the midfifties, Camels were most famous for their celebrity endorsement comic strip ads, like this one.
I have shown quite a few of these weird ads which seem to have been produced by Lou Fine. Most of them in black and white, taken from microfiche online sources, but some selfscnned and in color, like this new one.
If one ad series deserves a complete reprinting it is those delightful Pepsi Cops which ran all the way through the forties and was done by various artists (which you can see if you follow the link). They were probably designed by the first artist, Rube Goldberg, as you can see in this early sample.
And this one is completely new and unknown to me as well.

I am selling my collection of 1949/1952 This Week magazines. I came across a couple of Bob Bugg illustrations I hadn't scanned earlier.

Puff The Magic Advertising Tool
Wednesday Advertising Day.
I think I first became a fan os Bob Bugg's work when I came across his Sgt. Bilko Camels ads. They were one of the first series i actively collected and I am proud to say I think I got all of them (which you can see if you follow the link). Imagine my surprise when I found that he did another cigarette ad series, this time for Winston's (also from Reynolds, the coigarette company that cares about comic advertising). I showed as many of those as I can, resorting to poorer black and white copies from online sources to get a complete as possible. So now I have not only found two more of my own, I also found out that the I Love Comix site, who do what I do (share comic Sunday comic strips) in a more organized fashion. I have linked to them before and noted that they sometimes use my scans as well. All for the greater good. So I went back and copied what I have of Bob Bugg's 'other' cigerette series, a delightful satirical set and added the new ones to form a new 'compelte' set.

These Weeks
Monday Cartoon Day.
I have started selling my collection of This Week magazines from 1948/1952 (which I originalluy got to find as many Hank ketcham and Mort Walker cartoons as possible). Each lot I go through them to scan whatever I have left out the first time. Here are a couple of Bob Bugg illustrations, two Jack Betts pieces and a Ralph Stein feature from the 1948/earlu 1950 issues.

Everyone Needs A Speciality
Saturday Leftover Day.
I first noticed Bob Bugg's artwork on the late fifties series of Camels cigarette ads featuring Sergeant Bilko, all of which you can find here: http://allthingsger.blogspot.nl/2014/10/the-one-that-made-camels-back.html. After that, I came across his destinctive style as an illustrator in Pictorial Review, which you can find here: http://allthingsger.blogspot.nl/2013/02/lifestye-advise-wednesday-illustration.html. Then I discovered he had done a sepreate Camels series for soldiers without Bilko (I guess, the army was not a fan of the character), some of which I gathered here: http://allthingsger.blogspot.nl/2014/10/up-in-smoke.html. And finally I found out he did another cigarettes series right after Bilko, this time for Philip Morris, spoofing movie genres, which I am copying here. I have most of them here in black and white, but I scanned two other color samples this week which I have added in their place. I could also replace one with a color scan thanks to my internet friend Mike Vassallo, who is doing posts about his stash of New York Sunday News papers here: http://timely-atlas-comics.blogspot.nl/

The One That Made The Camel's Back
Wednesday Advertising Day.
I found on emore Bilko Camels ad by Bob Bugg I didn't yet have and added it to the earlier post.
Here are all I could find. If they were twice a month (as most ads were) and stated and ended at the time of my first and last find, I may actually now have all of them. Lovely stuff.
