Saturday Leftover Day.
I went back to find more of Paul Reinman's Merrie Chase and found where he took over from Carl Hubbell. The take-over seems to have been abrupt with the start of a new story, with Hubbell having prepared some of the Sundays already. The Sundays are stand-alone gags, so that would not have made a difference.
