It's Mel and Sururi, Alfred

Tuesday Comic Strip Day.

It's Me, Dilly was a delightful strip about a young girl trying to make it in the big city. It was written by Mel Casson, who was this wee's special subject of my blog and drawn by Alfred andriola (although most sources agreed that most of the work was probably done by his assistant Sururi Gumen. Dilly ran from 1957 to 1960, but it had a good distribution since I have color samples waiting to be scnned from many different papers. When the strip was discontinued Kerry Drake, Andriola's big succes strip went on looking more and more like Dilly as the decade went by. This was probably due to the growing importance of Gumen on the strip. I am sharing a more consistant run from the middle year of the strip, but I have collected many more samples for a later date.
