Dummy Exercize

Sunday Meskin Measures.

The inking of today's Vigilante tale from Action Comics #63 is a lot more sympatico than others we have seen. The GCD gives it to a possible Charles Paris, but this seems unlikely to me, as last time we saw him here he signed his name as 'Charlie' and the lines are a lot more thicker, like the work George Roussos did, only not exactly the same. In fact, looking at these stories, I am surprised how much of an influence on Mort Mekin Roussos must have been. When Meskin was allowed to ink his own work later on, it was Roussos' style that he chose as his own (with a good assist from Jerry Robinson, who had started out on Batman.... with Roussos as well).

Hi Ger,

Another great one, terrific you are continuing to post these.

Wasn't quite sure what you meant by this: "When Meskin was allowed to ink his own work later on, it was Roussos' style that he chose as his own." Mort began at DC inking his own work. Others were called in, Roussos, Paris, Kubert, et al, because he was running into trouble with deadlines. I'm guessing you meant his work took on a thicker, more Roussos like line later on?

I wasn't sure how much of hi own inking h did at DC at first. Certainly all through his Vigilante run, he was inked by others. In the fifties he seems to have switched his way of working around, doing much of the ctual work only in the inking. Although, what I have seen of his pencils always was very much worked out.

I think all the early Vigilantes signed "Mort Morton, Jr." are inked by Mort, as well as Johnny Quick.
