The Face Is The Thing

Monday Cartoon Day.

Last time I showed a series of Albert Hirschfelds movie and stage caricatures I mentioned the fact that I was suprised that no one had yet made a list of all his caricatures, either by title or by star name. I would imagine such a list to be a great recource. Let alone if all these would be available online. I imagine many more books and dvd's would be illustrated with this stuff. I was then contacted by someone from the Hirschfeld Museum or Foundation or something like that, mentioning that such a list was in fact being produced by them. That is more than two years ago and I still haven't seen anything. So here is another bunch of unlisted illustrations by the master. Some of them from name films and plays, others from works that are now forgotten (but often with name stars in them). All of them great works of art, most of which have never been seen after their first publication.

The one with Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe in Some Like It Hot, seems like a great example of what I am talking about. It did turn up when I googled, though. But here it is in full.

Clark Gable, Barbara Stanwyck and Adolphe Manjou in To Please a Lady:

Also from Colliers, Orson Welles and jacky Gleason:

That Hirschfeld list is available and we are about to to have the full launch of the Al Hirschfeld Foundation website at www.alhirschfeldfoundation.org. Already you can look up any of 10,000 works by performer, production, date, publication and/or genre. We have more than 2,500 images up already and more are being added all the time. Come by and take a look.
