Hidden Gems (1)

Monday Cartoon Day.

Last weeks Hirschfeld cartoons were a huge succes, so I have gone back and found a few more for the fifties, as well as continuing to 1963 for new ones. After the deluge of cartoons in 1962, I was surprised to find only one for 1963. Next week, I'll continue my search to the years after that.

Happy Journey (1953) with Helen Hayes and Alistair Cooke:

Main Street to Broadway (1953) with Tallulah Bankhead, Ethel Barrymoore, Gertrude Berg, Rodgers and Hammerstein and others:

The Misfits with Montgommery Clift, Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable:

Can you name the stars of By Love Possessed:

Alec Guinness and Susanne York in Tunes of Glory:

Robert Mitchum and jack Webb in Last Time I Saw Archie:

Burgess Meredith and Zero Mostel in Waiting For Godot (I wonder if there were commercial breaks):

Frank Sinatra, Kirk Douglas and Robert Mitchim (?) in Sergeants Three:

Oscar contenders Paul Newman, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, Natalie Wood and others:

Forgot to take the name:

Elvis Presley in Follow That Dream:

Ann Bancroft and Patty Duke in The Miracle Worker:

Burt Lancaster in The Birdman of Alcatraz:

Tony Curtis in Taras Bulba:

Suan Hayward in Stolen Hours:

If that's Sergeants 3, which was a Rat Pack film, that's probably Dean Martin, not Mitchum, and Peter Lawford, not Douglas. I'd bet that Hirschfeld has done better of all those men before.

Oh, that's Sammy Davis Jr. riding the horse and tooting the bugle.

That's the film version of WEST SIDE STORY with GEORGE CHAKIRIS, RITA MORENO, RICHARD BEYMER and NATALIE WOOD from 1961.

Although well known for his theater work in the NY Times, his film drawings were probably seen by a much wider audience since they appeared in publications throughout the world.
