Romancing the Past

Saturday Leftover Day.

Art spotters attention. Do you know who did this two page filler from New Romances #10 from Standard in 1952? I see touches of Steve Ditko in the first page, which seems impossible. And the second one looks as if it has been inked (and possibly drawn) by George Roussos.

Having Kubrt at Stanar is pretty unlikely. I am more or less ocnveinced that this must be inked by Roussos, possibly pencilled by him. But the figure in the second pane (and the way his hand is inked) is so unlikely for him.

I hear you... and yet, during this same time, he did 2 romance stories for Marvel (Lovers 25 & 30), the cover of Crime Smashers #2 for Trojan, and a wonderful Son of Sinbad story in Abbot & Costello #10 for St. John. So, it's not entirely unlikely.

Here's that wonderful Son of Sinbad story:

I love Kubert in this period. Hav you seen the stuff he did for Harvey slightly earlier?
