Aye-Aye, Dick!

Saturday Leftover Day.

Today Dick Ayers celebrates his 88th birthday. Best known for his work as an inker on Jack Kirby's prehero monster stories and his early superhero books as well as taking over the pencilling of Sergeant Fury and his Howling Commandoes, he worked all through the fifties for a variety of companies in a very distinguishable (almost cartoony) style. He did loads of horror and other books for Stan Lee at Atlas and created the original Ghost Rider western strip for Magazine Enterpriss. Since we celebrate the fifties here, it is appropriate to highlight an early mostly unknown gem, a series of funny filler stories for Magazine Enterprises' Daniel Boone books.
