Fancy Girl

Monday Cartoon Strip Day.

Ernest Bushmiller's Nancy has long been a favorite of American cartoonists. This weirdly funny strip was first saved from obscurity by underground cartoonist and later publisher Denis Kitchen. To appreciate it, you have t look past the permanently dull later years and go directly to the earlier years, when it was almost always surprising and had a really odd sense of humor. Some of my Dutch cartoonist friends have only just discovered this strip, due to the recent collection brought out by Fantagraphic, Nancy Is Happy: Complete Dailies 1943-1945. Although Fantagraphics has announced more years will follow and a Sunday book is in the works as well, here are some early Nancy Sundays along with some dailies I picked from various dates.

Ger Apeldoorn,

We cannot forget that Nancy is know here in Latin America as Periquita.
Have you seen the Charles Brubaker's blog (http://bakertoons.blogspot.com)?
There's a topic related to the Nancy comic strip, on a modernized version done by Jerry Scott in the 80s and 90s.
This topic is located on the following link: http://bakertoons.blogspot.com/2012/09/nancy-by-jerry-scott.html.
Enjoy to give a visit on this link.

Jerry Scott's version was unversally hated, but I loved it the moment I saw it. I'll go and have a look.

I just got a new NANCY book to review, NANCY LIKES CHRISTMAS. It looks pretty sweet! I don't know much about this strip but I'm anxious to get more of a taste of it!

Thanks for the post, Ger!
