Sunday Meskin Measures.
Like last week, we see Mort Meskin delivering another minimalistic job for Prize Comics Western. But this time, it seems more deliberate, less of a rush job. The posing of the figures is very good and it almost seems as if Meskin was trying to see how much of the outlines he could leave out. In many cases the coloring is more complete than his line work. He is like Noel Sickles in the late thirties and early forties, trying to draw without outlines, just using the shadows (of which outlines are no more than a graphic representation anyway). But I feel that this method of drawing is more suited to Sickles' planes and tanks than to Meskin's horses and humans. Still, it gives the story a rough feel that sort of suits the western subject, I guess.
