When John Severin left Prize Comics Western and his long running series American Eagle (written by Colin Dawkins, by the way) the title continued with less inspiring artwork by Marvin Stein. Also added was Mort Meskin, who drew a new series called The Drifter as well as some standalone short stories. Like Stein, Meskin went back and forth between his oversimplified style and some stories in which he clearly put some more effort. The first is one of the latter.
