Kaptain Katzenjammer

Tuesday Comic Strip Day.

Here are a couple of older Sunday pages I stiched together. I am just amazed at the amount of work that went into these.

This is one of the funniest strips of all time (and I preferred Knerr to Dirks). A best of from every artist who did this series was recently published in France, but I've rarely seen an American version. A Sunday Press book of this would be great.

I guess it's the, uh, "ethnic humor" aspect of it that makes it so unpublishable in America today. Pity…

People who like this, might also like Max und Moritz, which the Katzenjammer Kids was based on. I bought a big Wilhelm Busch book years back, which never fails to entertain me when I browse through it.

...And then there's of course the headache situation of the rival "Katzenjammer Kids" vs "Captain and the Kids"...

TO DIEGO CORDOBA: I'm very interested in the French book you mention. Could you give me the name of the book, and the publisher's name? I would like to buy it if it is still available, and costs less than as million dollars.

The Katzies are probably my favourite old-time strip. I caught the bug from my Grandfather when I was very young. He used to read them when they were brand new, in the late 1890s and early 1900s, and would talk about them and he made up new stories for us. Viva les Katzies!

Thank you for any help you can give!
