Last Saturday I shiwed a feature from Click magazine about Disney's Fantasia. Here is a piece from another film from that period I like the Fred Allen/Jack Benny comedy Love Thy Neighbour. Not as funny as either man's radio show, but still a great chance to see them together. And here they are in a four page article based on stills of that film.

I am a fan of American comic art, especially comic strips and panels. Stephen Becker's Comic Art in America I believe has been a "locus classicus" of sorts and seems still relevant. However I am impressed by the histories and reprints of the last decades. Thanks to you and your blog for significant contributions to an understanding and appreciation of comic artists' work particularly in the 40's and 50's. I hope you will consider putting together a book on this period.
In today's market a book would not be well recieved, certainly not one by me which would promote the fifties over the forties and sixties. I do try to get book projects going for partial subjects. I was going to do a book on Virgil Partch, which was sidetracked when Fantagraphics annoucned their own VIP book (with help form the family). I offered my research to the writer Jon Barli, who gracefully accepted it and credited me generously. I have a book project coming with Craig Yoe and am shopping around other ideas. You may also want to look out for some of my real articles in Alter Ego (like the two part article on the Mad comic book imtations or my article on the writings of Stan Lee). Roy Thomas has three article sby me on hold, one on Bob Powell's satorical work, on on Gene Colan's work in the late fifties and a huge one on Stan Lee's efforts to get out of comics between 1956 and 1962 (with at seven unknown projects, some of which I even found some illustration for). He will also be using that article for the few pages he has reserved for Stan Lee in the fifties in his upcoming book on Lee for Taschen.
