My good friend Craig Yoe has an amazing range of books covering forgotten strips from the forties and fifties. One of my favorites is his book with comic strips about cartooning. Here is a good one I found by comic book writer Carl Wessler, who was a cartoonist before he became one of the preeminent comic book writers of the fifties and sixties (working for EC, Timely/Atlas and DC for starters).
