I think the Hi and Lois strip by Mort Walker and Dik Browne suffered when it dropped it's 'work and home' angle to focus only on the home part. The series lost it's edge and Dik browne was no longer asked to create new faces as much as he used to. Stil, even though the gags seem familiar and more of the same after all these years of repetition, the art itself is gorgeous.
