To Deliver Coffee Where No Man Has Delivered Coffee Before

Saturday Leftover Day.

Next year I will be starting a new comedy strip in the Dutch Weekly Eppo, called Star Barz™. The art is by Michiel Offerman, who works as a storyboarder and artist for commercials and campaigns, but has always had a secret wish to do his own comic series. I thought today might be a good day to show the first art.

Is it me, or does the art have a touch of Martin Lodewijk about it? And I'm not even referring about the Olga Lawina 'buns'...

Yes, Michiel is a huge admirer of Martin. But he takes his inspriration anywhere he can. Wha you will see most when you read the stories is the fact that he is a storyboarder and hugely capable of capturing action. The strip itself will be a series of three page adventures that link together to a longer story, the same way a television series may tell a story each week and still have a lonegr arc as well. I am glad we have placed the series in a Dutch magazine, but we will also try and find a foreign outlet for it.

By the way, the character with the buns, is called Siri and is the natural evolvement of the Siri app in modern computers and telephones. When I saw Michiel's first drawings for he I pushed him to make the likeness to Olga even more so. In my imigination a couple years from now a designer will be asked to give our Siri a face and he just happens to be find a picture of Olga Lawina...
