Half Work Is A Start As Well

Saturday Leftover Day.

Actually not a leftover, but a pretaste. This month Dick Hodgins Jr. died. Later in life he worked with Dik Browne, but his one shot at the big time was when he was asked by Hank Ketcham to draw his new Sunday strip Half-Hitch, about a sailor in the US army. It was based on a similar character Ketcham had used in his earliest cartoons for Collier's, some of which I have shown here. But this character desig was totally new, at once completely in the Ketcham style and at the ame time really Hodgins' work. I have just recieved a set of Sundays which I am currently scnaning and preparing, but here is one I did earlier.
