A Trio For A Trio

Friday Comic Book Day.

I am a huge fan of the work of Alex Toth. Especially his early work, in the late fifties, when he was at his storytelling peak in my opnion. After he did animation design in the sixties he returned to comics and his work got a bit to graphic for my taste. One of the major series he worked on for DC was The Witching Hour, for which he designed the three female hosts and drew most of their framing pages. I would like to use these Friday posts to show you his work on those, but for the first one at least I think I should do all of the book.

So here you get Alex Toth at his most graphic storytelling with a short story by Pat Boyette (with some Toth vignettes worked in there as well), then an actual Toth story, and finally one by Jack Sparling (whom we have seen in a lot of posts here in the las few weeks). The last framing pages are written and layed out by Toth, but apparently are finished by Neal Adams.

Here is an earlier Toth romance story from Standard's Today's Romance #6.

Toth's "Witching Hour" framing stories remind me of his work for CarToons Magazine.

Yesah but they seem less cluttered. Wait for the full Toth story in #10, that's a classic.
