Mrs. Fitz' Menagerie

Saturday Comic Strip Day.

Since I am only posting twice a week these days, I am trying to save up all the best stuff for you. Here are a couple of self scanned dailies from one of my favorite strips from the Mort Walker factory in the late fifties. The variety of characters in Mrs. Fitz' boarding house is delightfull.

Ger: I apologize for the delay, but if I may be permitted to submit a minor contribution to your “Mort Walker Tribute”: Apropos of the type of audience that exists for your blog, which seems international, Mr. Walker, in an introduction to a short book on cartoonists, stated the following, which reflects kindly on him: “It used to perplex me how a citizen of Ceylon [now Sri Lanka], for example, could savvy ‘Little Orphan Annie’, or what a native of South Viet Nam could find in common with ‘Beetle Bailey.’ But I’m beginning to understand the current of the common man that flows through us all, no matter what the color of our skin or the tongue we speak. We all have the same basic motives, desires and frustrations. And in no form of literature are these human elements so abundantly displayed as in the comics.” Well said.
