Sunday Toth Treasures
This is the last before last Sierra Smith story in the series of stories Alex Toth did for Dale Evans Comics at DC. And it's the most 'modern' one yet. By setting the story at night, Toth was forced to work with shadows and darkness and if he didn't already kniw he was good at that, he certainly found out here. When he returned to comics in the mid fifties after a stint in the military with a whole new style, this is what it was based on. This story is so striking, that the next one looks positively dull compared to it.

These "Sierra Smith" stories are eye-openers. You can see Toth maturing before your very eyes...as you say, this episode is his strongest yet and sets the stage for the "Jon Fury" stories Toth drew in Korea. Thanks for posting them. Until now I'd only seen a couple of modern reprints.
There's more to come. I found the missing #5 in a folder and I have couple more stories from other titles. But this was my most complete run.
