Osh Say Can't You See

Friday Comic Book Day.

Here are some more Irv Spector pages madeavailable to me by Shane Glines. They came from one of those IW reprintsfrom the early sixties, Muggy-Doo #16. Which means thye came from on eof the first four issues of the 1950'd run.

To finish thisoff, here are two one pagers featuring a different character, called Elmer the Elk.

Do the Muggy.

Friday Comic Book Day.

Today I am showing you scans I didn't make myself.

Here is another Muggy-Doo story by Irv Spector which was sent to me by Shane Glines. It comes from Muggy-Doo #14, which seems to be a cheap early sixties reprint of one of the first four (and only) issues by IW. IW bough a lot of printing plates from all sorts of companies and tried to make a quick buck by publishing his own books from them, without asking for permission for them. In some cases he got away with it, in some cases the originalk owners tracked him down and asked him to stop or struck a deal. In the end, he left us with a whole slew of comic book reprints from material that would be more expensive if we want to buy the originals.

The story itself features my favorite character from this book, Osh. I had assumed he was a kangaroo, but he is a long faced straight up walking dog, just like Pogo's Beaureguard.

Have You No Shane?

Friday Comic Book Day

Today I am helped by the wonderful Shane Glines, whose cartoon Retro site used to be all the rage among Dutch artists a couple of years ago. It may still be, but when Shane started his site of beautiful comicy art from all the ages, the whole idea of sharing stuff like that on the web was still new and surprising. Now everyone seems to be doing it, including me. I am proud to have Shane among my visitors and he sent me his scans of Irv Spector's Muggy-Doo #12, which includes two Irv Spector drawn Muggy Doo stories as well as a beautiful cover. This is the Spector I like best - loose, but not to loose, beautifully designed stories and a very lively brush style. I don't think #12 actually is a #12, but some sort of reprint from the early sixties. The cover image is taken from the actual Muggy-Doo, Boy Cat #4 cover and so may the contents.
