A Close Shave
Monday Cartoon Day.
A couple of weeks ago, I showed you the work of cartoonist Art Gates, who did a military cartoon more than ten years after the war. Fred Wilkinson had a 'concept' cartoon that also used a lot of military gags. In fact the cartoon was often picked up by The Stars and Strips, the Army newspaper. According to the Who's Who of Newspaper strips, this panel ran from 1952 to 1961, but I have found no samples beyond 1957. I can't wait for The Stripper's Guide to appear for more complete data. Wilkinson is not the funniest cartoonist around and his style is not the most remarkable, but he is the owner of the most impressive signature ever. Where in the world did he come up with that one?!
