As Good As They Got

Sunday Meskin Measures.

Another Meskin/Robinson gem. This is what it has all been leading up to, folks.

Why do you say Meskin/Robinson? Credits read as Robinson, penciller, Meskin, inker. And to my barely educated eyes, the inks look pretty much like we're about to see when Meskin moves on to the Simon/Kirby operation. And the inks look like none of Robinson's I've seen. So?

And why do you say this is what we're leading up to? While Meskin was pretty good all the way (although restricted at the end by DC's, uh, throttling restrictions), his early stuff was pretty much his best, IMO. (Based on the early Vigilantes, of course, but the recent book too.)

Although I like Meskin's early stuff, I find the middle years pretty poor, so for me this is the best he ever did. I like my comics a bot more slick. For the same reason I seem to like Lou Fine's middle years better than his early ones, although I can see the appeal.

And as for the credits, I have come to believe that the stories he did with Robinson were Meskin lay-outs, Robinson pencils, Meskin inks. But I have to say, on these posts I am a bit more loose and personal than I would be on anything I submit to an official list.
