The Top Three

Wednesday Advertising Day.

Inadvertising, when something works you imitate. When the Peter Pain ads' hernia goblin was a succes, the cold demons quickly followed. When starting with a pained image worked, many ads took that format. In the early sixties, this probably was the format of the day. And are we seeing the three succesful realistic artists of Johnstone and Cushing here? The last one seems to be by Neal Adams, the second one to last by Tom Schreuer/Sawyer and could the Mennen ad be by Wexler? The opening ad is another much earlier example of that format, a Mennen ad from 1947.
