Back When Boner Meant Something Else

Tuesday Comic Strip Day.

Not everything that came out of the Mort Walker Factory was good. But they sure had an assuring trac record. When Boner's Ark started, it was marketed as something Mort Walker had always wanted to do, a peronal series that he signed in his second name Addison. The style was charming, the humor a bot more sily than his regular strips Beetle Bailey and Hi and Lois. While not scaling the highs of absurdity as his other spin-offs (like Mrs. Fitz' Flats or Sam's Strip) had done, it was certainly engaging. I remember reading it for the first time in the seventies and being quite charmed by it. Looking back on it, I wish it had been a bit more unconventional. Certainly, when Frank Johnson took over it lost the bit of edge it had. Still a very well drawn strip, it sort... drifted. Here are a couple to remind you of the good old days.
