So Glad

MOnday Cartoon Day.

In October Dutch artist Daan Jippes will be 70. I have been having a look at his work. Here is a selection of the covers he did for Gladstone's reprinting of Floyd Gottfredson's Mickey Mouse newspaper sttrip. Give me a yeah, if you like Daan's work.

Very fine work! The Mickey Mouse stories by Gottfredson have always been among my favorite, and those covers really dress the books in full glory. My congratulations to the artist!
On the other hand, I'm reminding you about my offer of the H. G. Oesterheld's "Ernie Pike" story, which I just finished. "A German lieutenant" is the title, and I cleaned and translated into English its 19 pages the best I could. Will be glad to send the comic to you as soon as you pass your e-mail address. Greetings!

Nice - I remember picking some of those up off a spinner rack in the mall bookstore

Yeah! Those Gladstone covers were amazing. Daan's work is so mystifying to me. They are incredibly detailed but also very clear and very appealing at the same time...clutter-y and clear at the same time. Some of the fine artist painters could pull that off but I can't think of another comic artist that can do it so well!

Dear Ger: I just sent the "Ernie Pike" comic through your Facebook page. I got a notice, however, that my message will be put into the carpet "Otros" (may be "Else" in English), since I was not connected to your page before. Hope you get the stuff and, most important, find it of some use.

Charles, if you leave me your Facebook name, I can try and befriend you.

Glad to. Search for Carlos Federici. It'll be a pleasure to befriend, although, as my friends know well, I'm not very fond of "FB", since I prefer e-mail, for direct, less complicated, and private. Plese tell me if you got my comic and what you think about my translation to English, for which I did my very best. Big hug.

Yeah for Jippes, yeah for Gottfredson, yeah for Oesterheld (while I'm at it)

I was never really into Disney (except for Super Goof) as a kid and really only discovered the comics with the Gladstone series. Jippes has become one of my all-time favorite of the Disney artists--and there are so many distinctively good ones!
