Chapman used headlines as a storytelling trick throughout his career.
--> This device was used in movies all through the thirties and forties as a visual way to present textual information. They have the added bonus of giving weight to the subject and premiss of Chapman's stories, although I don't think he ever used any real headlines. He just made them up out of his memory or the need of the story. The actual headlines were either added by the artist or the letterer or maybe even at the office. All these tricks contribute to a particular style that has all the qualities of an essay or a documentary. Monday, August 03, 2015

Yep, as to the previous comment. all this headlines seem real, except when it's obviously done by hand as in Small War.
