Thursday Bonus Day.
By the 1960's the use of comic strip advertising in newspaper comics had dropped down to next to nothing. In the early sixties the Johnstone and Cushing agency disappeared and it is not clear which event caused what. I probably worked both ways. One of the last artists dong comic strip ads was one time National Cartoonist Society president and It's Me Dilly cocreator Mel Casson. Casson was an elegant cartoonist with a commercial but not completely oldfashioned style. Here is one of his better (and later) samples.
