Saturday Leftover Day.
This week I showed a couple of Camels Ads, but Camels wasn't the only outfit using the Sunday comics page to attrackt new buyers. If you follow the link, you'll find three ads for Philip Morris, using the bellboy character from their radio ads ("Calling Philip Morris...Calling Philip Morris!") I am not sure if this means that the Sunday sections were aimed at adults as well as kids in those day or if the advertisers were allowed to target a younger audienced back then. The Happy Joe Lucky character looks as if it might have been drawn by Dik Browne, or Gill Fox or a team of artists including either of them. The second ad is less harmful, but uses celebrity endorsement in the same way.
