The Thin Black Line

Sunday Meskin Measures.

We go from one extreem to another on The Vigilante. After the lush and thick lines of Joe Kubert a couple of weeks ago, this weeks installment is inked so lightly that I can't imagine what the pencils must have been like. This makes it a good candidate for Mort Meskin having inked it himself, thouh he din't sign it as he would when he did.

Yikes! This looks like each page was inked in ten minutes!

When someone draws super-fast the idiosyncracies of his style tend to be magnified, especially in things like hands, small faces, and such.

In my opinion very little Meskin shows here. Looks rather like the inker may normally have drawn in a cartoony style. Of course I may be wrong.

Yeah, that's what I thought. But what would the pencils have been than? Only if Meskin inked this himself, he could have gotten away with such sparce pencelling. Or the inker lef out all of Meskin's groundwork.
